Booking Deposit and Cancellation Policy

A deposit of 50% of the total price of your hire is required in order to confirm your booking – this deposit is refundable if the booking is cancelled at any time up to two weeks before the hire date. If cancellation is made by you within two weeks of the hire date the deposit is non-refundable, but may be transferred free of charge to another date.

Payment

Payments are required to be by Credit Card (Visa or Master Card only), or cash (NZ dollars).
Deposits and payments-in-advance may also be made by direct credit – please contact us for details.

(Please note that you will need to bring your credit card on the day of your hire to cover the Hire Bond)

Bond

A refundable NZ$1500 bond is taken for the car when hired. This is payable on the day the car is hired by taking a signed credit card form from you. This bond covers several situations such if you have not had time to refill the petrol tank at the end of the hire, or if there is a speeding fine to be paid or you have had some damage to the car which requires you to meet the insurance excess payment.

Insurance

You are covered by insurance while you are driving the hired car but please read the hire agreement form carefully so that you are aware of the exemptions and the excess. The excess on this policy is NZ$1,000.

Age Limits

The driver must be at least 25 years of age or older.

Drivers Licence

All drivers must be in possession of a current valid full driver’s licence, which has been held for a minimum of 3 years.

Hiring Periods

A one-day hire is normally taken from 8am to 6pm.
For multi-day hires the first day’s hire commences at 8am and the last day’s hire finishes at 6.0pm.

Morning or afternoon half-day hire periods are normally for a maximum of 4 hours.

Distance Limitations

We make allowance for you to drive up to 350km per day – any distance over this is chargeable at 20cents per kilometre.

Road Limitations

The classic style cars we hire out are not to be driven on unsealed roads or on any roads which require chains for snow or icy conditions. Doing so will invalidate your insurance cover.

These cars are also limited to travel in the South Island of New Zealand, unless prior written agreement has been arranged between Marlborough Classic Motoring and the Hirer.

Breakdowns

Should a breakdown occur you are covered by the AA callout service. This service covers mechanical faults but not what is termed “driver related faults”. All details, including phone number to call are carried in the car for your reference. Driver related faults attract an NZ$85 call out fee which you are responsible for paying.

Responsibilities

The hirer is responsible for paying all speeding and other traffic fines incurred during the period of hire. Speed limits are the maximum permitted in good driving conditions. Exceeding speed limits can incur on the spot fines. Drivers should not drive with excess alcohol – it is illegal to do so and can invalidate your insurance cover.

The Marlborough Classic Motoring hire cars come with a full tank of petrol.

Oil and water will have been checked and topped up where necessary before the start of the hire, and tyre pressures will also have been checked.

The Hirer is responsible for paying for all petrol used during the period of the hire and should return the car with a full tank of petrol – if the hirer is unable to fill the tank prior to returning the car, we will do that on your behalf and make the necessary charge to the hirer.

The hirer should check oil and water levels and tyre pressure levels. Should the hirer have to top up the car with oil you are requested to please keep your receipt and we will reimburse you on return of the car.

Arrival Arrangements

Marlborough Classic Motoring cars are based at our property at Koromiko Homestead, near Picton in Marlborough. Arrival arrangements are as follows:

By car – we are happy to keep your car on our property during the period of your hire and will keep the car under cover if possible. There is no separate charge for this.

By Ferry/Train – we provide a free service to meet you by arrangement at the Picton terminal and transport you to our property Koromiko Homestead.

By Air – we provide a free service to meet you by arrangement at Picton Airport and transport you to our property at Koromiko Homestead. If we are collecting you from Blenheim Airport there is a small cover charge of $20 for this service.

Hire Vehicle Pick-up / Set-down Variations

Alternative locations for your pick-up and/or set-down of Marlborough Classic Motoring cars can be organised at the time of booking, and these arrangements will form part of the Hire Agreement.

NB: Filling in the agreement in advance does not obligate Marlborough Classic Cars in any way, and an agreement is not concluded until both parties have signed the agreement.
